I can't tell you my disappointment when I reached the front doors and saw
the picketing today. I had no idea I would not be enjoying the orchestra.
I had planned a very special day for my mother and sister; neither of whom
have seen The Nutcracker before. The performers were amazing as usual, but
it simply was not as powerful as it would have been with the musicians.
Please bring them back!

It has been our tradition since 1998 to see The Nutcracker. I was in
college and bought my girlfriend the least expensive seats in the house and
she loved it! We bought season tickets for 3 years. We loved the
"new and improved" Kaufmanns/Pittsburgh inspired seasons.

This year just wasn't the same. I didn't know until I got in front of the
show that the musicians were locked out! Since both of us are musicians,
we were so bummed! I live 70 miles North of Pittsburgh so we couldn't just
turn around a leave. The Nutcracker is what gets us both into the
"holiday spirit!"

I want to express how aweful it was. It was like The Nutcracker was
thrown into a blender. The dancing performance was ok, considering they
have no direction of the conductor. When the Ballet teams up with the
symphony, it's a well oiled machine. This performance was so clunky and
unprofessional. I could have seen this from the Carnegie Library stage
with aspiring talent from Pittsburgh!

The music had no fidelity. I also think parts of the show were cut out.
There should have been a 2 minute prelude before the curtain went up, and
parts were shortened. It was a shame.

I hope the upper echelons get an hearful and a slap on the wrist for
ruining Christmas.

Without Sincerity,
GG

My daughter and I have attended the Nutcracker for the last 4 years,
starting when she was 4. While this year's Nutcracker had wonderful
dancers, beautiful sets,it was disappointing in that it lacked live music.
My support to the musicians who have made previous shows memorable.

I have attended the Nutcracker ballet many times but last night (12-17-05)
was so terrible I was appalled to have a first-time attendee with me. How
can you imagine to produce a ballet without live music. Terrible!!!!!

My wife and I just left the Nutcracker at intermission because there was no
orchestra. The ballet company is terrific, but without the wonderful, LIVE
music, it is not worth taking a night on the town. And until this is
rectified, we won't be back.

My fear is that if such tremendous cultural entities such as the orchestra
are chopped, what is next on the cutting block? This is a travesty, and it
is sad to see Pittsburgh moving in the completely wrong direction. Without
the Steelers, UPMC and major universities there really wouldn't be much
here at all.

We just returned from The Nutcracker, having left at intermission. We have
been subscribers and supporters of the PBT since moving to the Pittsburgh
area over 20 years ago. We always look forward to seeing The Nutcracker.
This year's performance was not the same without the live music. We will
no longer be supporting the ballet if the orchestra is not a part of the
experience.

We just attended The Nutcracker last night, and we were unaware up to last
night that there wouldn't be a Orchestra performing. To be honest, it did
effect the show in our eyes, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Orchestra has
always made the experience of going to the theatre so much better. We
really hope by next Christmas you will be back playing!!

My husband and I recently attended a performance of "The
Nutcracker". We are newlyweds, but have attended the event annually
for the last few years. Our family drives in from Erie for the experience.
We hope to continue this tradition as our family grows. The absence of
live orchestra music really impacted us. We strongly support the presence
of the live orchestra. We urge for reconciliation so that our future
generations can be as enlightened by their PBT experience as we have been
in the past.

I have been a season ticket holder for the Pittsburgh Ballet for more than
30 years. I want to convey to the Ballet management that I am wiling to
pay more for my tickets, so that the orchester continues to be a part of
the Ballet. The Ballet experience is not the same without an orchestra. I
believe the Ballet management is being penny wise and pound foolish.

I think eliminating the live orchestra was the biggest mistake the PBT
could have made. What is next: showing us videos of the dancers? I will
be taking my business to the Opera from now on.
